Altmeyer's Trailer Sales Inc.: Fit your horse, and your budget
Three generations of Altmeyer's have come and gone, but for 30 years the family-owned company, Altmeyer's Trailer Sales Inc., has remained as solid as the trailers they sell.
In servicing or sales, the people of Altmeyer's pride themselves on their work and the variety they offer. 4-Star, Sundowner, Kiefer Built, Trail-et and Moritz International are just a few of the horse trailer options available at Altmeyer's. However for those who want a custom built trailer, that is also possible—the company works to provide a trailer fit for every type and every budget.
Altmeyer's offers a fully-stocked parts department and six drive in service bays for repairs and maintenance. They also sell various types of equipment useful to horse people such as CarMate Cargo trailers, Bri-Mar Dump Trailers and quality flatbeds.
Altmeyer's serves both Western Pennsylvania and North Central Ohio and offers free freight between the Pennsylvania and Ohio locations. For more information on Altmeyer's Trailers, call (800) 352-1565 or visit them online at www.altmeyertrailers.com.
Put Zippy and Her Capable Staff Behind You Today
The people of Congelosi Trailer Sales can honestly say that, at age 13, their mascot, Zippy, has been selling trailers her entire life. Of course having the support staff that she does, she can proudly bark their motto: "Put Us Behind You Today!"
Put Congelosi, their mascot Zippy, their 30+ years of reputation, caring, knowledge, experience, support, and people behind you. They have factory trained technicians who can service anything they've sold—new or used—most of whom have been with Congelosi over 5 years and many over 10 years!
With Congelosi behind you, you won't have to worry about your trailer. Many of their trailers are built to their own specifications, which they have developed over the years with various manufacturers. That allows them to stand behind what they sell because they know it is a quality product—not a "cheaper" unit that will give you problems in the future. A trailer that costs you less now, may end up costing you much, much more in the future in unnecessary repairs and maintenance.
You are important, especially to Zippy as she is in constant need of people (and children!) to play with. Your business is important to Congelosi; during the sale they are there to see that you get what you want and need. While a sale is certainly important to them, your satisfaction in the future is of even greater concern to them. By keeping you happy, they know they'll see you back again and again, and you will tell your friends to come visit them, and Zippy. That philosophy has allowed Congelosi to be at the same location and grow over the past years—from working out of a garage to their new modern 18,000 square foot facility.
Today is when Zippy (and her staff) want to see you. You never know what she'll find amongst the 300 or so trailers that Congelosi has on their lot. Usually it's a stick or ball she'll find mixed in with the utility, equipment, enclosed cargo, auto, motorcycle, snowmobile, dump, horse, stock or used trailers. She would even like you to come meet her new friend Lucy, who is learning new things everyday and is their new assistant mascot.
Of course they can also order or customize a unit to your specifications or requirements. Also, today is the day that they can register your purchase, as Congelosi has an N.Y.S.D.M.V. terminal on site, so you'll have your permanent plates and registration now.
We all hope Zippy will be around at least another 13 years to bark "Put Us Behind You Today!" but just to be sure perhaps you should stop by for a visit soon—and NO, you can't take her home with you!

Huffman Trailer Sales: Offering Brands They Trust
According to Mark Huffman, Sales & Marketing Director of Huffman Trailer Sales, a company is only as good as its products and its people. Both are areas in which Huffman shines.
For twenty years Huffman Trailer Sales, based in Harrisonburg, VA, has provided customers with great products and a positive purchasing experience.
Huffman Trailer Sales is Virginia's largest dealer for Featherlite aluminum trailers. They have a complete inventory of Featherlite horse, cattle, car and utility trailers as well as flatbed and utility trailers from Better Built, Titan, Hudson & Mid-Atlantic. They also offer dump trailers from Bri-Mar and Titan and car and enclosed trailers from Pace American.
They take trade-ins and have used trailers for sale. They also offer a large selection of parts and towing accessories along with an experienced service staff who do inspections, trailer repairs, installations of B&W GN hitches and receiver hitches, as well as some custom work.
Mark's grandfather Bob Huffman started the business on the principle of the Golden Rule and is still involved and an important influence. Vice President Brian Wilfong, another grandson, has introduced innovative ways to network, market trailers and help customers with financing.
"We carry trailer brands that we trust, not just the ones that allow us to make a quick buck," said Huffman. "We want our customers to be confident they are purchasing a trailer that will do what they need it to and will be reliable."
They also pride themselves on their ability to care for customers after the sale, with parts and a knowledgeable service staff.
For years Huffman Trailer Sales has served the Mid-Atlantic region (VA, PA, MD, WV, NJ) and beyond, from Virginia and, since 2007, a second store in Bristol, TN.

Common Sense Loading with Ledyard Horse Training
Shane Ledyard remembers the day clearly; it was the day his Trailer Training service came to life, if only in his head.
He had only been running his horse transport company for a short time, and he stood there and watched yet another handler attempt to load a difficult horse by clipping a chain over its nose as a second handler chased it with a whip. He knew he could help them—the horses and the people—and so an idea was born.
Ledyard's idea was simple, but unique. He wanted to help people load their horses on trailers, safely and kindly.
Ledyard has been involved with horses for over 15 years in various capacities, as a judge, rider, instructor and trainer and he quit the transport business just last year to focus more on his other endeavors, including his hunter/jumper clientele. He is proof that good common sense is not partial to "cowboys."
"If a horse won't load it's usually a series of small misunderstandings on the handler's part," said Ledyard.
If you ask Ledyard about his training technique, he will tell you that he tailors it to each individual horse. While there are some things that remain standard, the large majority of what he does flows from what each horse seems to need.
"They've all had their own experiences and they've all been trained, or mis-trained, differently," said Ledyard. "I will endorse any method that gets a horse onto the trailer that is kind to the horse and safe."
According to Ledyard it is important to remember that loading onto a trailer is completely unnatural for a horse.
"We tend to spend so much time riding and training and doing things the horse is already naturally pretty good at, such as walk, trot, canter," said Ledyard.
He encourages people to spend more time working on the things that don't come naturally to your horse, such as trailer loading.
Besides fear, according to Ledyard one of the biggest reasons a horse won't load on a trailer is because it was never properly trained to lead.
"We don't pay much attention to our horses when we lead them," said Ledyard. "If they balk we just pull on their head and sometimes they come and sometimes they don't…when leading, our horses should be actively working beside us and listening to our cues just as they would be if we were riding them."
He explains that we can get away with this kind of leading around the farm from day to day, but it often shows up at just the wrong moment—when trying to load your horse on the trailer.
"It shows up as soon as the horse questions something," said Ledyard. "If you teach your horse to really lead, when they say, ‘hey I'm not sure I want to get on that trailer,' they will be more apt to listen to your aids, because they are used to doing it on a daily basis."
Though he is based in Bucks County, Ledyard will travel world-wide for his clients and their horses. He travels all over the tri-state area and beyond, and won't think twice about making a trip overseas. Along with his private sessions, he also conducts clinics covering topics such as safety when trailering, how to handle general trailering problems, as well as touching on problem-loader issues.
His DVD "Trailer Loading Your Horse" is now available, and he hopes it will help people understand more about how to properly teach a horse to load. For more information, call (267) 446-8392 or visit www.LedyardHorseTraining.com.

Traveled Lane Trailers Do Travel
Though they are located in Centreville, MD, you may see them all throughout the mid Atlantic region—Traveled Lane Trailers really do travel.
Traveled Lane offers several lines of trailers, priced to fit a wide range of budgets. Recently added to their line-up are Calico trailers, well-made trailers at very affordable prices.
"Our Calico straight loads have really caught on with buyers, thanks to a great combination of functionality and price," said Jon Morlock, of Traveled Lane.
In this era of high fuel prices, fuel-saving Brenderup European trailers have caught on, too--you don't need a truck to tow a Brenderup. Other popular lines sold at Traveled Lane include Kingston, Shadow, Lakota and Jamco. According to Morlock, the Lakota HUT bumper pull Living Quarters is possibly the only product of its type on the market and has proven very popular. Traveled Lane also sells equipment, enclosed, dump and utility trailers.
Their trailers are well equipped with safety and convenience features.
"While it's easy to sell a stripped trailer at a low price, we believe long term customer satisfaction comes from trailers that are better equipped, more enjoyable and safer to use," said Morlock. Their trailers are thoroughly checked and prepped before customer pickup, and if there's a question or issue after the sale, they "still answer the phone."
"We try to earn sales through excellent customer service, not aggressive sales tactics," Morlock explains.
"We have high quality products, but what we think sets us apart is that we spend as much time as necessary to help each customer make an informed decision. One of our most useful bits of advice is, ‘Don't buy a trailer that's too small for your horses or too large for your vehicle.' That's common sense, but it's amazing how many inappropriate (or unsafe) horse and trailer or trailer and vehicle combinations we see on the road or at the shows."
Morlock and the others at Traveled Lane will do whatever it takes to help the customer. They can frequently be seen doing the math to demonstrate a tongue weight, or helping the customer decipher info in the owner's manual to determine a vehicle's tow capacity. At Traveled Lane, customer service is the bottom line.
Traveled Lane is currently offering clearance specials on selected models. Specials are indicated by "Clearance" starbursts on their website, www.traveledlanetrailers.com. To learn more, phone (800) 336-7855.
