Grand Prix Show Jumping is a unique combination of beauty, grace, athleticism, skill
and courage. Some describe it as the excitement of horse racing with the daring of downhill
slalom. The jumps are huge: more than 5’6” high and 6’ wide (think of an SUV). The course
is set to demand extraordinary talent and teamwork between the horse and rider. The test is
simple: take all the jumps in the correct order, don’t drop a rail or fall off and do it in the fastest
time. It’s a thrill for the whole family.
One of the challenges of Harrisburg’s Grand Prix is that it is indoors in a relatively
small ring. The historic arena, with the audience above and almost near enough to touch
the jumps, creates a challenge for horse and rider to concentrate and block out the noise
and distractions. Precision, agility, boldness and focus are required.
Find your seats by 7:15 for the 2014 induction into the Hall of Fame, then hear the
course description and enjoy the opening ceremonies for the keystone event of the show.
The $85,000 Grand Prix de Penn National begins at 7:30 pm and is followed by the final
performance by the Canadian Cowgirls.
Reserved seats are available for the Grand Prix at $25, $40 or $50 which includes all
day general admission and free parking. General Admission tickets for the Grand Prix
are also available at $10 for students and seniors and $20 for adults. Children under 6 in
General Admission seats are free.
