River Meadow Stallions is Home to Many Breeds, Disciplines

Looking for a relaxed, family friendly, multi-discipline atmosphere in which to enjoy horses? River Meadow Stallions fits the bill. Among the breeds on the farm are Haflinger, North American Spotted Haflinger, Shire, and Thoroughbred used for English riding, hunter/jumper, eventing, western pleasure, equitation, gaming, and driving.

The farm has a beautiful 12 stall barn, multiple pastures, a 70’ round pen, a 200’ x 100’ lighted main arena and a 100’ x 50’ warm-up arena, all with eco-friendly footing. Monthly gaming and schooling shows are held the second weekend of the month, April through October. Services include breeding, training, lessons, journeyman certified farrier service, consignment sales and pre-purchase evaluations. Top quality offspring of the farm’s stallions are available for sale along with excellent riding horses.

Owners Chuck and Cindy Schomann have over 50 years combined experience breeding, training, giving lessons and showing. Chuck is a certified journeyman farrier. Cindy has shown and trained on both the east and west coasts.

English, western and driving lessons are available to students of all ages.  Students learn how to groom, tack and take complete care of a horse. Because beginning riders can find horses intimidating, students are carefully matched with horses suitable to their ability.  Being safe and having fun is of utmost importance. The farm’s instructors do not rush their students or push them ahead of their physical or mental ability, they allow time to form a solid riding foundation and train them to be horsemen, not just riders.

“Horseback riding increases self confidence, discipline, self control, and perseverance, as well as developing balance and coordination,” said Cindy Schomann. “As if all of that isn't enough, it's fun, rewarding, relaxing and educational.”

Full care, field and self care boarding is offered. Boarders have full use of the farm’s facilities and can participate in the monthly shows held on the property.

River Meadow Stallions offers stud service for six different breeds:

  • North American Spotted Haflinger/ Pinto: ”Prince of Hearts RMS” was featured on Wayne Williams’ show, Speaking of Horses.
  • Haflinger: “A Royal Ruckus RAH” is an A-Line stallion who rides and drives and is an eventing champion.
  • Thoroughbred: “Kris’s Touch” 16.1 HH, is Pennsylvania bred, with War Admiral lines.
  • Miniature: “Bent Trees Lucky Charm” is a 32” dun.
  • Shire: “Fox Valley Oliver” is 18 HH, a US and Canadian driving and combined driving champion, and 2008 Traditional Series Breyer.

Training is based on herd dynamics, and begins with gaining the horse’s respect and trust. New horses are evaluated for physical and mental health and suitability for their discipline. A typical training session lasts thirty days, and owners are asked to participate in the training, making the transition from training facility to home easier and less stressful for horse and owner. Training is offered for several disciplines including driving, as well as starting, re-starting, and working with problems.

For the Horse Farms Open House: River Meadow Stallions will have a tack swap, pony rides, carriage rides, concession stand, equine dentistry and stallion demonstrations. A Blue Seal Feed representative will be available to answer questions on nutrition. Special pricing will apply to the farm’s sale horses. A drawing will be held for a Breyer model of their stallion “Fox Valley Oliver.” Various seminars will be held throughout the weekend and discounts and special offers on breeding, lessons, and training offered.
