Capital III
Capital III, a Holsteiner stallion by Cor de la Bryere, now stands at Sunfield, Inc., owned by Susan Sisco. For years, Sue sought stallions who were great athletes with a recognizable pedigree and good dispositions to breed to her mares. Capital III has all these qualities, and when the opportunity came for Sunfield to acquire this stallion, Sue took it. "Cappy" has all the qualities Sue looked for in a stallion: he is a great athlete, has a very gentle disposition, and he is a beautiful horse.
Capital III is by Cor de la Bryere, who is well known for reproducing great jumping ability. "Cappy" has shown at the Grand Prix level in the jumpers, and has also successfully competed at the 4' Regular Working Hunter level in the hunter ring. He is a fun ride for the professional, and has no trouble taking an amateur around the ring. He even has filled in as a lesson horse. He passes his jumping style and ability to his youngsters, who also get his willing and gentle attitude.
Sue is a great believer in the Futurity Programs, and has nominated Capital III to both the International Hunter Futurity and the International Jumper Futurity. Foals conceived in 2007 are eligible for these lucrative programs. The Futurities give the young horse owner incentive to get their animals started correctly, and give them a chance to win back some money while they are developing the young horse. If the youngsters are for sale, futurity eligibility adds to their value.
Capital III stands for $1250, plus a $300 collection fee, with a Live Foal Guarantee. See more pictures of "Cappy" at the Sunfield, Inc. website www.suesiscosunfield.com or call Sue at 610-593-2604.

Selket Louchiano
"When the decision was made to produce a film documentary based on "Fate of the Stallion," I wasn't sure where we could find a horse big enough to portray "Nahgua," the lead character," said Ron Hevener.
"The search took us to Jim Andreson, of Selket Arabians in Michigan. Jim's herd was based on his powerful and athletic bay stallion, *Furno Khamal, a champion in Germany, Belgium, Holland and France, where he won Junior World Champion Stallion at the respected Salon du Cheval in Paris. Khamal stood an incredible 16.2 hands tall.
"A huge Khamal daughter had foaled a bay colt with a star by US Reserve National Champion Stallion Da Vinci FM. He was exotic, train-able, and he was the closest Jim had ever produced to his beloved Khamal. He was counting on this colt to continue the Selket Arabians bloodline. As Fate would have it, he was over 16 hands and growing.
"I met Selket Louchiano "in person" at the U.S. Arabian Nationals. I knew he would be important in my life when he reached down and pressed the star of his forehead to my chest. Talk about touching your heart! When he entered the arena, under those bright lights, to the crowd cheering, I knew we had found ourselves a star.
"Louchiano was shipped to Pennsylvania and put in the care of trainer Nancy Waite-Howington. After that, he was moved to WaterGap Stables, near Christiana, where Judi and Christi Scott trained him under saddle. The relaxed, natural atmosphere at WaterGap Stables, with its own racetrack, pasture, paddocks and good stallion management, is perfect for Louchiano and much of the movie was filmed there.
"I believe Arabian sport and performance horses should be beautiful. With marketability of Luchiano's foals in mind, he is an Arabian Race Cup sire, a Sport Horse sire and also a Sweepstakes sire."

Trefaes Taran
Trefaes Taran, a 1986 Section A Welsh stallion, stands at Anderin Farm LLC in Palmerton, PA. A four time Male Champion and a Supreme Champion at the Royal Agricultural Fair in Europe, he was Reserve Champion at the 1997 Horse Of the Year Show (HOYS) out of 38,000 entries! In 2001, Taran was further honored by being chosen as the Section A representative for the Welsh Pony and Cob Society Centenary Celebration painting.
"We will forever be indebted to Dr. and Mrs. Wynne Davies for giving us the opportunity to stand the world famous stallion, Trefaes Taran," Anderin Farm owner Liz Fronheiser said. "Quoting Dr. Davies, '[Taran] is probably one of the most prolific winners in modern times.' Since arriving in the U.S., Taran has confirmed all of our expectations. His movement, both free and extended, is positively breathtaking and passes on to his get. His conformation is so nearly perfect that he is oftentimes used as the model for the Section A type. (See An Introduction to Welsh Ponies and Cobs.) He has a gentle, warm, and kind personality, which means even small children are safe in his company.
"This classy, renowned gentleman leaves us in awe. He is exactly the type of Welsh pony we want to breed for he is, most assuredly, one of the best!"
The progeny of the 11.3 1/2 hand stallion, by Wynnswood Little Acorn and out of Trefaes Tail, carry his correct confirmation, ten+ movement, and unbelievable athleticism. His offspring, who have won many championships, have his exceptional quiet personality.

Pavon II
Pavon II, a 16.1 hand PRE Andalusian, is gray, with three white socks, a blaze, and a black mane and tail. But he wasn't born that way. According to owner Ellin McGinley Daum, "He was born a dark chocolate brown with some almost invisible dapples, and as he got older he slowly began to turn gray until he reached his present coloring. Pictures taken in 2000 show how much he's changed from his birth color, and how light he's becoming. By the time he reaches his twenties, he probably will be totally white." Pavon carries the genes for black, bay, or gray offspring.
Born in Canada in 1995 and inscribed at birth, Pavon was revised by the Cria Caballar at Spruce Meadows in 1999, microchipped and DNA tested before being imported in June 2006. He has demonstrated his talent in Dressage at Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and is working well at Second Level Dressage in the United States. He will begin his competitive career in the spring of 2008.
A quiet, calm and willing stallion, Pavon is a gentleman to handle and ride. He is a quick learner with athleticism, balance and the gaits for any discipline. He is a very good jumper as well.
Pavon's first two US foals were born this year. Pavon's Esperanza, a filly out of a Trahkaner/TB mare, is a tall leggy bay filly with four white socks and extravagant white facial markings. Half Moon Bay, a colt out of a black and white Tovero mare, is a tri-color paint: bay and white with black mane, tail and points. He is large boned and sweet tempered.
Pavon stands at On Eagle's Wings Farm, in Plainfield, Indiana, just seven miles from the Indianapolis International Airport. IND is a Federal Express hub—an important advantage for the shipping of fresh cooled semen.

Larks Justin
Larks Justin truly can do it all. He was started in reining and as a working cow horse won the AQHA Open Versatility Ranch Horse Championship in 2004. Then in 2005, his owner, Bev Funk, turned him toward the English disciplines, where he has excelled in hunters, jumpers, dressage, and eventing. Cherie Gaebel, his rider, said, "I have decided that I must have done something very special in a past life to deserve the ride on this horse!"
Justin's quiet rideability, correct conformation and consistent jumping style have won him ribbons in the hunter ring. His athletic ability and work ethic have made him a standout in the jumpers, culminating with a win in the Ludwig's Corner Horse Show Jumper Classic 2007 against 27 other horses, all larger than his 15.2 hands. His heart, drive and willingness to always try what is asked of him have made him the only quarter horse stallion actively eventing in the United States.
He has qualified for a CCI*, earning ribbons consistently at the Preliminary level and is currently Grade 3 with the USEA. His big stride and correct movement never fail to get attention from the dressage judges, who frequently ask "what is he?" "We very proudly represent the AQHA in the sport of eventing," Gaebel said.
A grandson to Rugged Lark, known for his versatility and athleticism, his pedigree also draws attention. Justin's sire Majestic Justice is an AQHA Champion Sire and ROM Performance Sire, known for passing along a wonderful temperament. Justin's offspring have his friendly 'I can sleep at the foot of your bed' attitude and his athletic stature. It will be fun to observe their capabilities as training progresses.
Justin stands at Sedgemere Farm in Elverson, PA. For information phone (610) 761-0918.

Citation King Leo
Citation King Leo is one cool character. Just ask owner Dolly Broyles, who, along with the 16 hand quarter horse stallion, spent a long hot day in a Tractor Supply parking lot, representing the American Quarter Horse Association to the general public. After hours in the hot sun, while "Leo" visited with young children, Dolly's young barn manager decided to ride the stallion through a nearby Burger King drive through window and order some lunch. "She jumped on him bareback and rode him through a packed fast food lane, car in front, diesel truck behind. He was completely calm as he walked up to the window and waited while she ordered, paid and rode off with the food. I've never seen anyone more shocked than the attendant in her headphones," said Dolly, who went along to watch. "He was the center of attention and as calm as can be."
Leo passes that brave, smart brain along to his foals, along with his people friendly nature, excellent conformation and athleticism. His offspring are successful in dressage, hunters, show jumping and western pleasure. Leo is unique among Quarter Horse breeding stallions in that he is ridden dressage by his owner and senior rider Dolly Broyles, and is also wonderful on the trail and with children. He is a larger than the average quarter horse with a good size foot. His progeny are typically large and he will even lend size to a petite mare.
Wellspring Farm is located in southern York County, about 30 minutes north of Hunt Valley, MD. For more information, visit www.wellspringfarminc.com or phone Dolly Broyles at (717) 235-0941.

Charlie
Born in 1995, Charlie is a direct son of the original Roadsweeper of the United Kingdom (UK). With incredible conformation, temperament and color, Charlie is a perfect example of what the Gypsies envisioned when perfecting this special breed, the Gypsy Vanner.
A proven sire, Charlie has produced foals in the UK, and in 2005 we welcomed four of his foals, the first to be born in the United States. Since than Charlie has sired several dozen Gypsy Vanners from coast to coast and in Canada. He has proven that he can pass along his temperament, conformation and color. In 2007 his foals won both the filly and colt division of the Great Lake Gypsy Vanner Futurity, the first Gypsy Vanner breed futurity ever held in the US. Charlie also had one of his colts win the IBC class at Dressage at Devon in Devon PA out of a field of 12.
A true Renaissance horse, Charlie spends his spare time participating in select equine competitions, including the prestigious Dressage at Devon, where he qualified for the USDFBC, another first for the breed. He also was the first Gypsy Vanner to be recognized by the USDF as high point for the year, quite an honor. When not showing Charlie enjoys a long lazy trail ride with his stable partners. To think he was a pasture stallion in the UK just a few years ago.
El Brio Vanner is very proud to announce that starting in 2008 Charlie can be seen on the cover of the Mane and Tail brochure. It is quite an honor to represent such a wonderful product line. As you can see by the cover and Charlie that the products are just amazing and make our grooming process much easier.

Dancin' At Dawn
Mentzer knew Dancin' At Dawn was special from the moment he was born, at Bellwood, the cutting horse ranch where she worked in Montana. "I was the handler for his sire when he was bred and I was there the day he was born," she said. "I watched him grow and perform in the field, and loved his kind personality and love of showing off."
Bellwood Ranch is known throughout the west for their versatile horses with notable AQHA bloodlines, which they sell nationwide. "They breed talented, athletic horses that are used for nearly every discipline imaginable, that have good minds and are easy to train," Deana said.
Dancin's sire, San Colonel by Peppy San Badger, is a top cutting horse and the leading sire in Montana. His dam, Grey Lady at Dawn, a thoroughbred, is by Grey Dawn II, the 1991 Jockey Club Leading Sire of Broodmares.
Deanna bought Dancin' At Dawn as a weanling and hauled him back to Lancaster County at eight months. She broke him and within three days of putting the saddle on his back was trail riding him. Deana began training him in cutting and then when he got too tall for that sport, turned him toward hunters and dressage, where he earned scores of 75 and won championships at local shows. His future is focused on dressage, with a possible return to the hunter ring and expanded education in reining.
Dancin' At Dawn, now 7, is currently recovering from a minor injury but will return to the ring for Pennsylvania Horse World Expo.
Visit him at Pennsylvania Horse World Expo booth S14 or phone Saddlebrook Stables at (717) 808-0716 or (717) 627-2970.
Nikko of Noble
Defy the odds, own your dream.
This is the motto of Defiance Friesians, LLC, who recently opened the breeding books for the first time ever for their 2004 FPS/FHANA registered purebred Friesian Stallion named Nikko of Noble. For 2008 only, Nikko's breeding fee is at the amazing introductory rate of just $500 with live foal guarantee to both Friesian and non-Friesian mares!
Nikko spent 2007 competing in halter and in-hand classes and flourished in everything he did. He will be started under saddle this spring and is expected to excel in dressage as well as carriage. Nikko is an FPS 1st premie with the popular modern sport build. He should reach 16 hands, has amazing up-hill knee action with the well known "Wander" powerful hind end, is extremely intelligent, sensible, and has lots of hair, big strong feet and a gorgeous refined head.
The owner and president of Defiance Friesians, Julie Davis, stated it is usually outside the average person's budget to be able to afford a Friesian or Friesian cross, herself included. However, through her own diligence, a lot of hard work and a bit of luck, she acquired this amazing stallion and wants to pass along her good fortune. Nikko is registered with FPS, FHANA, FPZV, FHS, FOA, FBHR, FSHR and AFA and his offspring are eligible for registry through many of these fine organizations. He is by one of the very few Dutch approved stallions, Wander 352 and out of Model Mare Hanke (Ritse 322) with a co-efficiency of just 1.56%.
Won't you please add Nikko to your list of potential stallions for the 2008 breeding season? You can obtain more information at www.DefianceFriesians.com or call Julie directly at 719/433-1276.
Happy Hour
"I am the very honored, privileged human companion to Happy Hour, our 16.1 hand, black German Trakehner stallion," says Renee Howe of Hawks Run Trakehners. "He continues to consistently pass on the world-class qualities of his dam, Heimkehr III and his world-renowned sire, Induc, who earned the very coveted German Bundeschampionship in 1994 with scores of 9.0-10.0 for rideability, trainability and movement. Happy Hour's impressive lineage traces back to Main Stud Trakehnen.
"Happy Hour crosses beautifully with a variety of mare types, imparting his correct conformation, good substance and size, elegant yet powerful uphill movement, and good suppleness and elasticity. Happy Hour and his offspring are very sociable, people-oriented, willing and sensible. We continue to receive rave reports as to his offspring's excellent rideability and trainability, as well as their talent and versatility.
"While many offspring are still young, Happy Hour's first son has repeatedly earned top USDF Horse of the Year, All-Breeds and FEI Young Horse honors, and in 2006 was the American Trakehner Association Futurity Champion. Other offspring are doing very well in under-saddle and in-hand competition.
"I can only say Happy Hour is the horse of a lifetime for me and like no other creature I've ever known -- he is the most kind, willing, affectionate horse who also has a fabulous sense of humor. It is truly a love affair we share. We are extremely proud of Happy Hour and his offspring, and would not trade one moment of this wonderful journey we are so fortunate to travel with him. Our continued goal is to produce top quality performance horses for the amateur and professional that are extremely trainable, rideable and talented, and to preserve the Trakehner breed."

El Todopoderoso
British native and Todaly Farm owner Karen Turner recalls seeing her first Andalusian in Spain as a young girl. "I realized that as they were very rare and expensive I would never own one. As an adult I went to a garage sale at a local farm, saw my dream horse, and my husband purchased him for my 42nd birthday," said Turner, for the last decade a US resident.
Andalusians are an ancient breed used extensively in films (Gladiator, Braveheart, Lord of the Rings and more). They have been used since antiquity as war horses, in bull fighting and as gifts to royalty for the Kings of Spain. Dressage was invented with them in mind, and the dressage world is rediscovering the breed.
El Todopoderoso is a very brave, elegant, agile and beautiful gentleman. He is grey with a long flowing mane and action that makes him float over the ground. His sire is the legendary Genio III, the first US Andalusian to have one of his foals returned to Spain to be a breeding stallion. His dam, Mi Tesora, is elegant, beautiful and a film star in her own right. Her bloodlines go back to the legendary Legionario III, the original Breyer Andalusian horse who was deemed to be perfect in Spain. His grandmother Palais/Calahandro, reportedly the only bullfighting mare in existence, was influential in breeding in Spain, Portugal and the US.
El Todopoderoso, who is sponsored by Pennfield Feeds, is a classic baroque military style Andalusian. His first foal, Astro Delanorche, won Reserve Champion overall, best movement half Andalusian and best half Andalusian in his first show at 18 months old at the Region 6 ERAHC show in Mass. This year his brother will compete at the same show!
Todaly Farm breeds full and 1/2 Andalusians, sell foals in vitro and have a nice cross section of sane, well conformed broodmares. Foals are well handled and have good basic ground manners training by the time they are weaned at 6 months.
